Shenzhen ranks first among China's top fashion cities in the 2024 New Fashion Capitals list, which was released by Vogue Business China at a press conference on the Spring/Summer 2025 Shenzhen Fashion Week yesterday.

The report evaluates cities on five criteria — fashion spending, business potential, cultural appeal, talent pool, and overall fashion industry growth. The ranking provides strategic insights for fashion brands looking to enter the Chinese market.

The Spring/Summer 2025 Shenzhen Fashion Week, one of China's top three fashion events and a key fashion showcase in Asia, will kick off tomorrow and run until Oct. 26, according to the press conference.

"Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Shenzhen Fashion Week is set to undergo significant upgrades," Pan Ming, head of the Shenzhen Garment Industry Association, told reporters.

"We have a major collaboration with Vogue this year, aiming to boost Shenzhen's fashion industry and enhance the city's global image. The event will take place at two of the city's iconic landmarks — Shenzhen Bay MixC and Shenzhen Talent Park — and bring the audience an extraordinary visual experience," Pan noted.

Pan said a series of fashion events are planned, including fashion shows, exhibitions, forums, and ordering sessions, both online and in-person.

Additionally, Shenzhen Fashion Week will collaborate with Vogue's Forces of Fashion (FOF), an international fashion event launched in 2017. Bringing FOF to Shenzhen is expected to increase the city's influence in the global fashion scene, attracting more resources and events, while driving innovation and diversification in the local fashion industry. The collaboration will also support Shenzhen's broader goals of consumer and cultural development, according to the conference.

On Friday, Vogue FOF will host an open forum featuring discussions from prominent figures in fashion, entertainment, music, and culture, exploring trends in the international fashion industry.

In the nine years since its inception, Shenzhen Fashion Week has become one of the most influential fashion events in the country. The city's garment industry has ranked first in the country in terms of the number of fashion brands, as well as the number of listed fashion companies and their market values. Official data show that Shenzhen is home to over 2,500 fashion brands and 30,000 fashion designers. Its garment industry takes 60% of the country's high-end market share.
